Cholelithiasis, commonly known as gallstones, refers to the formation of solid concretions in the gallbladder or bile ducts. These stones are composed mainly of cholesterol, bile salts, and calcium deposits. Gallstones may remain asymptomatic for years, but can cause pain, nausea, and digestive disturbances when they obstruct bile flow.
Risk factors include obesity, high-fat diet, sedentary lifestyle, rapid weight loss, pregnancy, female sex, age above 40, and certain genetic predispositions. Complications may include cholecystitis (gallbladder inflammation), pancreatitis, jaundice, or bile duct obstruction.
Symptoms can include sudden severe pain in the right upper abdomen or right shoulder, nausea, vomiting, bloating, indigestion after fatty meals, fever (if infection develops), and jaundice. Pain often occurs in attacks lasting 30 minutes to several hours, commonly at night or after heavy meals.
Homeopathy treats cholelithiasis based on individual symptoms, pain characteristics, digestive disturbances, and constitution. Remedies are selected to relieve colicky pain, improve bile flow, reduce nausea, and prevent recurrence. Lifestyle measures include avoiding fatty and fried foods, maintaining healthy weight, staying hydrated, and gentle physical activity.
