Indigestion, medically known as dyspepsia, refers to impaired digestion or discomfort in the upper abdomen, commonly after eating. It may result from overeating, irregular meals, spicy or fatty food, excessive tea, coffee, alcohol, stress, or underlying gastric disorders such as gastritis, peptic ulcer, or gallbladder disease.
Symptoms include bloating, belching, flatulence, nausea, burning in the epigastrium, heaviness after meals, loss of appetite, and acid reflux. Functional (non-ulcer) dyspepsia is usually related to stress or poor lifestyle, while organic causes may include gastric ulcer, GERD, or delayed gastric emptying. Chronic cases can affect nutrition, mood, and overall energy levels.
Homoeopathy treats indigestion by addressing both functional disturbance and constitutional tendencies. Remedies are selected based on the nature of discomfort, modalities (what aggravates or relieves), associated symptoms, and causative factors.
Homoeopathic medicines act by regulating gastric motility, improving secretion, relieving inflammation, and restoring normal digestion. They are especially effective in functional dyspepsia, flatulence, acidity, and nervous indigestion. Long-term use strengthens the digestive organs and nervous control without side effects.
Indicated for sedentary, overworked individuals who suffer from heartburn, sour belching, nausea, and fullness after eating. Worse after stimulants, coffee, alcohol, or overeating; better from rest.
For hyperacidity with sour eructations, burning in stomach, and acid taste in mouth. Often accompanied by frontal headache and constipation.
For burning epigastric pain, restlessness, nausea, and vomiting after spoiled or cold food. Pain relieved by warm drinks, but patient feels anxious and weak.
For excessive gas and bloating with desire for fresh air and weakness after eating. Useful for old or debilitated persons with slow digestion.
For digestive upsets from fatty, creamy, or rich food. There is no thirst, taste of food remains long, and symptoms are relieved by cool open air.
Persistent nausea with clean tongue, vomiting of food or mucus. Useful in gastric irritation from overeating or spoiled food.
For excessive bloating after small meals, with sensation of fullness and rumbling. Desires sweets and warm drinks; symptoms worse 4–8 p.m.
When there is empty feeling in stomach relieved by eating, but pain returns soon after. Often due to nervous dyspepsia or mental strain.
For acid dyspepsia with sour vomiting, belching, and yellow-coated tongue. Excellent in gastric acidity due to excess sugar or fat.
For stomach discomfort with dryness of mouth and great thirst. Worse from motion, better by rest and lying still.
For functional indigestion due to nervous exhaustion, with flatulence and belching of undigested food. Common in students or professionals.
For irregular digestion caused by grief, worry, or suppressed emotion. Accompanied by globus sensation, sighing, and variable appetite.
For burning in stomach and sour regurgitation, with early morning hunger and sluggish digestion. Often suits lazy, untidy constitutions.
For gastric irritation, white-coated tongue, and nausea after overeating. Better from rest and avoiding overindulgence.
After loss of fluids or exhaustion, with abdominal distension and slow digestion. Eructations relieve pain temporarily.
For acid dyspepsia with vomiting after eating, burning pain, and desire for cold food and drinks which are vomited when warm.
For acid reflux and regurgitation of bitter fluids, especially in those with liver congestion and aversion to food. Better after exercise.
For heaviness after fatty food, pain radiating to right scapula, and bitter taste. Especially effective when liver involvement is present.
For weak peristalsis and sluggish digestion, with sense of dryness and inactivity of bowels. Appetite poor, with fullness after eating.
For gastritis and flatulence in anxious, hurried individuals. There is nervous indigestion with belching and trembling.
Indigestion arises from dietary errors, lifestyle factors, or stress-related gastric dysfunction. Homoeopathy provides a comprehensive, individualized approach, targeting both digestive irregularities and constitutional weaknesses. Remedies like Nux Vomica, Lycopodium, Pulsatilla, and Carbo Vegetabilis effectively regulate digestion, relieve acidity, and restore normal gastric tone. With proper diet, rest, and constitutional treatment, homoeopathy ensures long-term digestive balance, vitality, and comfort without dependency or side effects.
