Balanitis is the inflammation of the glans penis (head of the penis), often extending to the foreskin (when it does, it is called balanoposthitis). It commonly occurs in uncircumcised males due to poor hygiene, infection (bacterial, fungal, or viral), skin irritation, or allergic reactions. Other contributing factors include diabetes mellitus, tight foreskin (phimosis), chemical irritants like soaps or detergents, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). While it is not usually serious, it can cause significant discomfort, pain, and irritation.
Homeopathy treats balanitis holistically by addressing both local inflammation and the underlying cause, such as infection, poor hygiene, or systemic imbalance. Remedies are selected according to the type of discharge, level of irritation, and constitutional symptoms. Homeopathic medicines help reduce inflammation, heal the affected tissues, control infection, and prevent recurrence, ensuring safe, gentle, and lasting recovery without side effects.
A key remedy when there is swelling, ulceration, and purulent discharge with offensive odor. The glans is painful, sensitive, and inflamed, with itching and burning, especially at night. Excessive sweating and salivation may accompany.
Indicated when the glans is reddish, shiny, and swollen, with stinging or burning pain. The person feels better with cold applications and worse from warmth. Suited for acute, allergic, or inflammatory balanitis.
Useful in ulceration or fissures on the glans or foreskin that bleed easily. The pain is sticking or splinter-like, and the discharge is offensive or purulent. Often indicated in chronic or neglected cases.
Best for balanitis associated with genital warts or moist eruptions. The glans may have itching, oozing, or foul-smelling discharge. Thuja is particularly helpful when caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.
A constitutional remedy for recurrent or chronic inflammation with redness, itching, and burning, especially aggravated by warmth or at night. The patient may have poor hygiene or skin sensitivity.
Indicated when burning and smarting are severe, particularly during or after urination. The glans is inflamed, swollen, and highly sensitive. It helps in acute, painful balanitis with urinary irritation.
Useful when cracks or fissures appear on the glans or foreskin, with thick, sticky, honey-like discharge. The skin is rough, sore, and itchy. Suitable for chronic, eczema-related balanitis.
Recommended when the skin is very dry, cracked, and sore, especially in cold weather. The area may burn and itch intensely, and the foreskin may stick to the glans.
Indicated when the glans is inflamed, eroded, and painful, with bleeding or soreness. Often helpful when the inflammation follows sexual excess or infection.
Suited to chronic cases with persistent irritation, soreness, and discoloration. The person feels tired, indifferent, or emotionally withdrawn, indicating a deeper systemic imbalance.
