Steatorrhea refers to the passage of pale, bulky, greasy, foul-smelling stools that float and are difficult to flush. It results from poor absorption of dietary fats due to disorders of the pancreas, small intestine, or bile production. Common causes include chronic pancreatitis, celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, cystic fibrosis, bile duct obstruction, and certain infections. Patients may experience abdominal bloating, cramps, weight loss, nutritional deficiencies (vitamins A, D, E, K), and fatigue. Chronic cases require investigation for malabsorption syndromes, enzyme deficiency, and intestinal inflammation.
Homoeopathy aims to regulate digestion, improve pancreatic and biliary function, restore intestinal mucosa, and reduce fat malabsorption. Medicines are chosen based on the nature of stools, associated gas, bloating, food intolerances, aggravating factors, and the patient’s constitution. Homoeopathic remedies help stabilize digestion, improve stool consistency, reduce offensive odor, and enhance nutrient absorption.
Stools are pale, oily, and foul. Much gas, bloating, and rumbling especially after eating onions, beans, or starchy foods. Right-sided complaints, craving sweets, irritability, and low digestive fire.

Children with poor nutrition, sluggish digestion, distended abdomen, and craving eggs. Stools are fatty, whitish, and offensive. Useful in chronic malnutrition and enzyme deficiency.
Clay-coloured fatty stools due to deficient bile flow. Pain under right scapula, jaundice tendency, bitter taste, and heaviness in liver region.
Stools are slimy, greasy, offensive with urgency and tenesmus. Salivation, metallic taste, and worse at night or during temperature changes.
Children with poor bone growth, thin body, and malabsorption. Stools contain mucus, fats, and partially digested food.

Steatorrhea is a symptom of malabsorption and needs proper evaluation for pancreatic, biliary, and intestinal disorders. Homoeopathy offers individualized remedies that improve digestion, enzyme action, intestinal absorption, and overall nutritional status. With proper diet, lifestyle adjustments, and appropriate constitutional treatment, steatorrhea can be significantly improved in many cases.
